First round of Cotswold and PGL Leagues – and good luck for Counties

Last weekend saw not one but TWO Cheltenham swim club teams participating in leagues when we raced in both the PGL and Cotswold leagues.

Team Cheltenham watch their teammates race at Cheltenham College

The Cotswold event was here in Cheltenham (at Cheltenham College) so the swim section was running things. Overall I think we did a fab job, if I do say so myself. But as well as great teamwork from volunteer parents running the show, it was brilliant to see the swimmers cheering each other on. All that cheering obviously worked as we came a magnificent first out of four teams – and scored a total of 181 points.

Special thanks to Laura Hansen, who has taken over coordinating as club team manager and managed to shoo all the children to the right place at the right time. Also to coach Josh who has the headache of a task of picking the right children for the right event – with the danger of speeding tickets I am sure this is a lot harder to do than many realise. As far as I know we didn’t get a single speeding ticket all evening which means his selection must have been sound.

Over at the PGL league in Worcester our youngest swimmers were getting their turn. I wasn’t there to give a first hand account but I am sure they too had a great time and managed a very respectable third place – with some of the swimmers entering their first league event (we may get an update on what happened in Worcester, promised to me by one of our coaches who shall remain nameless…)

Hengrove Leisure Centre – where the County action starts this weekend

So now on to the counties, which start this weekend at Hengrove in Bristol. There are lots of entries this year and it’s going to be a busy few weeks, with a need for volunteers so do sign up if you will be there on the days we’re needed to help. Otherwise relax, enjoy the swimming and make sure your swimmers eat well, rest well, and most of all also enjoy themselves.

Good luck everyone!
