Primary School Gala wins on election night.

NOT even the EU elections could get in the way of another excellent night for the younger swimmers in Cheltenham as CSWPC hosted another successful Primary Schools Gala.

It was only when the counters turned up complete with police escort to start counting the votes at the Cheltenham Leisure centre that a slight feeling of panic among the organisers set in…

…but as we all know, nothing phases our team managers and officials and the evening turned out to be a great success with lots of poolside noise and excitement from all the young swimmers and their parents.

Evie Henderson (R) and second place girl Hannah Palmer (L) shake hands on it.

In the end a total of 13 schools entered the gala and according to Laura Hansen, who organised the night for CSWPC, it was great to see a wide range of swimmers taking part. Marion also helped out by officiating with her lifeguarding float in hand and there were only a couple of swimmers who needed any extra help.

John Bell organised the team of volunteer officials and as well as parent helpers the event was also supported by swimmers from squads 2 and 3 who had siblings in the gala. In addition, team captains Beth and Ewan were on hand to add that extra bit of support. Thanks also to Dee Tombs who sorted out the door, raffle and goodie bags which were really well received, Ally Wilson who worked the room as announcer, and all the others who helped behind the scenes – this really was a team event.

The final results:

Y6 and under relay –  Charlton Kings Junior

Y5 and under relay  – St Edward’s Prep

Best Boy – Keiron Edge

Best Girl – Evie Henderson
