Our swimmers are Cotswold League Champions!

What a fantastic result! The swimmers jumped into the pool with joy as the results were announced – Cheltenham were joint winners!

At the end of a busy season, the Cotswold League which began in January reached its conclusion at GL1 last Saturday night. We were up against tough competition – eight teams in total including the highly fancied City of Bristol.

Our fab finals team

We made a steady start, but gained momentum as the evening went on with all swimmers cheering on their teammates who put in a raft of stellar performances. The points were read out at intervals throughout the gala and the excitement grew as we crept up the results table.

As we reached the final events, the cheers grew louder from swimmers and spectators alike but we still didn’t know where we would be placed at the end – even if we knew it would be a close finish.

Finally the moment came and as the swimmers stood together wearing their red shirts with pride, quiet for the first time over the whole evening, the results were read out and….

Cheltenham were (joint) champions!!

This was a really fantastic result as this is the Cotswold A league title – making us one of the top swimming clubs in the region.

We should be really proud of our swimmers, especially as so many of them had to “swim up” – eg in an older age group.

Huge thanks go to all volunteers  including team managers Laura, Richard, Lisa and Allison; all our officials; and of course coach Josh who not only did an incredible job on the night but has organised the team selections for the entire league. He has ensured that all eligible swimmers have been offered a chance to swim in one or more of the junior leagues.

Just time to catch our breaths and it’s on to the PGL home gala on Saturday, and the start of three weekends of regional events. Good luck to all swimmers taking part – and to the parents who have to look after them.

And if you want to vounteer to help out either at the PGL event or any other events please step forward with your hand raised. Everyone welcome!
